Root Canal Therapy
Tooth infections can cause severe pain, and if you don’t seek treatment, an infected tooth may lead to serious health issues or the loss of the tooth. However, with prompt and efficient treatment, we can often save an infected tooth and restore your oral health.
Dr. Michael at Gentle Dental Eagan offers effective root canal therapy to his patients to relieve pain and help them keep their teeth healthy and strong.
When Is a Root Canal Necessary?
Root canal therapy is necessary for teeth in situations where the soft tissue at the center of the tooth, known as the pulp, becomes inflamed or infected. If this occurs, the patient generally experiences either gradual or sudden pain in the tooth. The tooth may throb, or the patient may feel radiating pain through the neck, ears, sinuses, or jawbone.
The patient may also experience temperature sensitivity in the tooth, persistent jaw pain, and pain when they place pressure on the tooth, such as when they chew.
If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms, it’s time to call Gentle Dental Eagan at (651)-452-5511 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Michael. During your appointment, Dr. Michael will thoroughly examine the tooth to see if root canal therapy is the appropriate solution.
If it is, we will work with you to make the root canal procedure comfortable. We realize that root canal treatment has a bad reputation, but fortunately, that reputation is unwarranted. Root canal therapy is not actually painful for most patients. We numb the area carefully before the procedure, and we have sedation options available, including nitrous oxide (laughing gas), to make you feel at ease throughout the appointment.
Root Canal Therapy in Eagan
Our fast and efficient team at Gentle Dental Eagan can have most simple root canal procedures completed in around two hours or less. And once we have treated the tooth, it may last a lifetime with proper care and attention.
In our Eagan dental office, Dr. Michael will take the following basic steps during your root canal therapy:
- Dr. Michael will gently numb the area around the affected tooth, and if you decide to use sedation dentistry, he will make sure you are comfortable with the sedation method you have chosen.
- Once you are comfortably sedated and numb, Dr. Michael will make a small opening in your tooth and remove the infected pulp.
- He will delicately clean and smooth the inside of the tooth before filling it with a strong but rubber-like material.
- If necessary, Dr. Michael will place a temporary crown over the tooth while we create the permanent crown for your tooth. If that’s the case, you’ll visit us again to have the permanent crown placed once it’s complete.
