Denture Treatment Options
If you’ve experienced tooth loss, regaining a full smile is possible through full or partial dentures. Dentures at Gentle Dental Eagan are custom-made from impressions to look as natural as possible and fit comfortably in your mouth. Learn more about the differences between these two common types of dentures:
- Full Dentures: Full dentures are a removable teeth replacement option for patients who have lost or extracted all their teeth. A gum-colored “plate” fits snugly over the patient’s gums. Artificial teeth line each plate to give a full, realistic smile. Most patients can eat and drink comfortably with full dentures in, while simply avoiding certain sticky, hard, or crunchy foods.
- Partial Dentures: Often referred to as “partials,” partial dentures are a removable teeth replacement option for patients with at least one or more remaining teeth in the top and bottom jaws. Partials are a type of removable dental bridge; the artificial teeth and gum-colored plastic plate are supported by a metal framework that connects to your existing tooth or teeth. Some partials offer connectors called precision attachments that have a more natural appearance. As with dental bridges, a crown on your existing tooth may be needed to add additional support for the partials.
